Have you ever seen an object or a photo or an image and thought to yourself, "I can make that" ... Even when you have never made anything like it before?
Well I encountered that this past weekend, as posted before with my little project called "Rooty". I have never done Amigurumi style of crochet before .. but ever since I learned how to crochet from my grandma over 10 years ago, I've noticed, that I can better look at a photo and figure it out than read patterns. So after looking at some photos of Amigurumi creatures and playing around with some stitches, I attmpted to make a Rooty ... I think for a first attempt he didnt come out too bad :) (Oh I know the legs should be the same color as everything else, but I ran out of yarn, and to keep the consistancy of the cotton yarn, it was either hot pink - lol .. or the varigated brown ... )
I would love to hear from all of you, have you ever completed a little project not knowing a pattern, or kinda winging it and happy with the results? Please feel free to post a comment :)
Have a great Tuesday! Thanks for reading!

How cute! I'm always trying new things, however, one of the best things I've learned from this is that sometimes if I make a mistake, it actually comes out better than if I had made it "perfect"!

That is cute. I bead and normally need a pattern if I'm trying to replicate something! Just followed your blog. Mine is at: http://tranquility-base-designs.blogspot.com/ and twitter: http://twitter.com/jammatun
ReplyDeleteRooty turned out adorable. I try my hand at new things too and most times they come out pretty good. I think it's a fun challenge and good to stretch those "brain" muscles.
ReplyDeleteRooty is cool! I don't know how to read patterns so everything I make is a 'try it and see' I find it very rewarding :-)
ReplyDeleteCute! I cannot work with yarn to save my life :)
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your kind words! Thanks for following me!
ReplyDeleteRooty is so cute! I think you did a wonderful job!
ReplyDeleteI make jewelry and I often go to shops and get inspiration from items for sale. I particularly like finding items that are really expensive that I know I can make for a fraction of the cost :)
There's an item on my blog called "Chains" that I found in a designer store for $170. I made it myself for under $5!
